Bear Watching and Photography – Comfort Hide

1 Day
  • May-October

The Alutaguse bear hides offer an excellent opportunity to watch and photograph bears. In addition to the brown bears, the hides are frequently visited by raccoon dogs, occasionally by moose, badgers, wild boars, roe deer, and rarely by wolves and lynxes, as well as numerous bird species. Alutaguse is considered the bear stronghold of Estonia, as nearly half of the country’s approximately 1,000 bears inhabit the forests and wetlands of this region. Our hides are located in the western part of Alutaguse, near the Sirtsi Bog, just a 1.5-hour drive from Tallinn or Tartu.

The Comfort hide

is our newest one. The small house is located at the edge of the forest and a meadow. It features chairs, observation windows, and space for up to 12 people. Sleeping is available in a small room that can be closed off with a door for privacy. The house has a total of 4 rooms, each equipped with a bunk bed and an option for an extra bed. Each room can accommodate up to 3 people. The hide has electricity, hot running water, and a toilet (WC). The observation windows offer a view of the forest meadow, and at night, diffuse lighting illuminates the area around the hide.

We always book a separate sleeping room for each booking, even if you come to the bear hide alone, ensuring privacy without mixing strangers.

If you want to know how to get to the hides via public transport, please read more from our blog.
